From February, BizDojo will be taking on a lease for the co-working space at the GridAKL Innovation Precinct  in the new Lysaght Building. This means a couple of things, the biggest being that the current GridAKL residents will turn into BizDojo residents, and later on be joined by the rest of the BizDojo Auckland crew.

Moving into a new building is largely about making it work for the people that inhabit it. You get the desks set up, the internet going and  the coffee machine churning and you start to feel a little smug. That is until you watch people make their way through the “wrong" door in the building, thus missing all your hilarious-pun-laden wayfinding before being spat out confused in the middle of the first floor workspace. Siiiiigh.

What you will find when you walk through the doors of GridAKL?

In through the doors of Pakenham Street West, our entrance space and cafe area will be ready to welcome you next year. In the meantime  head up the stairs where the new 750 Sqm2 work space on level one unfolds in front of you. The kitchen is full of great spots to grab a bite to eat (or have a casual chat) before the space moves into team pods...

We have always crafted the GridAKL Hub with agility in mind, from the flexible rental agreements for our residents right down to the furniture on wheels that defines, and redefines how physical spaces are used. Now we are taking this agile and flexible nature to the next level, wheeling ourselves down the road to our new home in the John Lysaght Building…

Recently I celebrated a year of working here at  GridAKL. This year has seen plenty of pivots, including a pretty massive change in my thinking, passion and trajectory. I have learnt plenty in the last 12 months; I now know what SAAS is, am a bit obsessed with data visualisation and know that true innovation comes from the convergence of many different viewpoints. Not bad for an ex-fashion lander. 

Many of the things that excite me most are simple things that I have picked up from the startup ecosystem here in Auckland.

With the maze of roadworks, dust and crazy construction going on around Wynyard Quarter at the moment its easy to forget all of the wonderful work that goes on within this rad little community of people and businesses, and how grateful we are to be a part of a neighbourhood and wider network that harbours so many talented and innovative humans. 

So here is a shout out to some of our extended GridAKL and Wynyard Quarter family, who are pushing the boundaries and making us proud to know them on the daily.
