Brightly: Leading the Way in B Corp Community Building

March marks B Corp Month, a time to celebrate businesses that balance profit with purpose. Among them, Brightly stands out as a leader, fostering a strong B Corp community and demonstrating that sustainability and ethical business practices aren’t just about certification-they are a mindset that drives long-term impact.

What is B Corp?

B Corps are companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Certified by B Lab, a global nonprofit, B Corps commit to using business as a force for good, prioritizing people and the planet alongside financial success.

Brightly’s Commitment to the B Corp Movement

For the past five years, Brightly has been a driving force in the B Corp ecosystem, championing responsible business practices. Brightly became B Corp certified in 2020 but signed the MOU with B Lab in 2022 to formally launch its official partnership as a member of the B Local Tamaki Makaurau team. As a long-standing resident of GridAKL, Brightly continues to embed sustainability and purpose-driven business values into the startup and entrepreneurial community. In 2023, the company successfully re-certified, raising its B Corp score from 80.9 to an impressive 106.8, further solidifying its commitment to impactful and responsible business.

GridAKL has long been a hub for innovation and socially conscious enterprises, and Brightly has played a key role in keeping the B Corp ethos alive. Their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with B Lab Australia and New Zealand strengthens their efforts, ensuring local B Corps have access to global networks and resources. While B Lab New Zealand was once based at GridAKL, Brightly’s presence ensures this vital connection remains active.

Building a Thriving B Corp Community

Beyond their work at GridAKL, Brightly is deeply involved in B Local, a community-led initiative supporting B Corps across Aotearoa. Their dedication includes organizing workshops and monthly meetups that foster collaboration and momentum within the sustainability space.

Most recently, Brightly hosted a workshop featuring B Lab Aotearoa’s new manager, Michele Wilson. The session reinforced key themes within the B Corp community-the need for peer support, knowledge sharing, and collective action among small to medium-sized businesses striving for impact.

March 27: A Breakfast to Celebrate B Corps

As part of B Corp Month, Brightly is set to host a special event on March 27 at GridAKL. This session will bring together business leaders to discuss how B Corps are shaping the future of business, featuring a panel discussion on challenges, successes, and lessons learned.

Brightly’s work continues to inspire businesses to go beyond compliance and embrace a purpose-led approach. Their leadership within the B Corp movement is a testament to the power of community, proving that ethical business is not just possible-it’s essential for the future.
