Level Up: Indie Game Showcase 2024

Indie Game Showcase is all about bringing the community together, providing developers with the chance to network, get real-world playtesting feedback, and refine their pitches. The room was filled with excitement as investors and gaming industry professionals explored the diverse array of games on display.

The showcase featured a combination of 30 established & Up-and-Coming Auckland-based indie game developers, and had an impressive 300+ attendees participate in the action!

Media Design School students made up about half of the participants, bringing their fresh and innovative ideas to the table. The University of Auckland Game Developers Guild also made a strong showing with a talented team, and we were thrilled to welcome a team from Albany Senior High School, marking their first-ever experience in an event like this.

An impressive 30% of the developers had never showcased their work before, making this an invaluable opportunity for them.

More established studios such as Astronaut Diaries brought their experience from international showcases such as Gamescom in Germany, and PAX in Australia, with their latest creation Denari. Their presence added an extra layer of excitement and inspiration for the budding developers.

The event wasn’t just limited to traditional games. We also had a few VR games that transported attendees into immersive worlds, offering a glimpse into the future of gaming.

From intense game playtesting sessions to animated discussions between developers and industry professionals, every moment was a testament to the creativity and dedication of the indie game community.

Thank you to everyone who made the Indie Game Showcase a smashing success! Whether you were a developer, attendee, investor, or industry professional, your presence and participation were what made this day truly special. We can’t wait to see what the next showcase will bring!
