Lightning Lab finds its home at GridAKL’s innovation hub

At the heart of the GridAKL innovation precinct, GridAKL’s hub is more than a little excited to announce we will be hosting the very first Auckland Lightning Lab!

Open since May 2014, GridAKL’s hub is home to 15 resident businesses that span areas as diverse as social enterprise and innovation, cloud based video production, health and safety application development and communications. With a strong tech and start-up focus GridAKL’s hub is a natural fit for the first Lightning Lab deployment in our fair city.

Our thriving community, and friends of GridAKL are not only looking forward to seeing the outcomes from the programme, but also in supporting Lightning Lab and the businesses that come through their digital accelerator.

‘The entire GridAKL team is thrilled to provide a home for the inaugural Auckland Lightning Lab at the GridAKL hub in the heart of the innovation precinct. An exciting addition to our own start-up ecosystem, we are looking forward to supporting and being involved in really making this project a success.’

                    Tracy Moyes GridAKL Hub Manager

Originally founded by Wellington based Creative HQ, the programme has attracted attention both domestically and internationally, with an alumni list that includes Wipster, Keen and Glassjar.  Lightning Lab is being bought to Auckland via our family at The Icehouse. Lightning Lab will also be popping up in Christchurch through support from CDC.

“Lightning Lab is about bringing the best startup teams into one place and building globally focused companies. By melding the strongest startup support networks across the country, we can do this more effectively and more frequently. It brings a necessary focus to do what we need to do – create more successful digital ventures from New Zealand.”

Stefan Korn CEO of Creative HQ

Along with entrepreneurial support, The Icehouse brings a strong track-record of creating pathways for startups to access funding both through its own Ice Angels network and through their larger external network of investors.
