SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Reading Group: A Survey of Context Engineering for Large Language Models \nJoin us at our next meetup to discuss the paper “A Survey of Context Engineering for Large Language Models.” This session will focus on understanding context engineering as a critical component in developing robust LLM applications. \nThe paper we will be discussing\n“A Survey of Context Engineering for Large Language Models” https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.13334 \nContext engineering is the process of precisely populating an LLM’s context window with relevant information for optimal performance. This involves integrating elements such as task descriptions\, few-shot examples\, retrieved data (RAG)\, multimodal inputs\, tool definitions\, and historical state. Effective context management is essential\, as insufficient or irrelevant information can degrade LLM performance\, while excessive context increases computational cost. This is a non-trivial aspect of LLM application development. \nContext engineering is a specific\, crucial part of a broader\, emerging software layer designed to coordinate individual LLM calls within complete LLM applications. This layer extends far beyond simple “wrappers\,” encompassing problem decomposition\, \ncontrol flow\, LLM dispatch\, generation-verification\, guardrails\, security\, and evaluation.\nPlease try to look at the paper before attending. This helps us have a more productive discussion as participants will have a shared foundational understanding. \nWho is this meeting for?\nThis meetup is for individuals interested in Data Science and Machine Learning\, particularly those involved in or curious about the architectural and engineering challenges of building LLM-powered applications. \nThe discussion will aim for an intermediate to advanced level. But we welcome attendees of all levels. \nDiscussion Format:\nWe will follow a reading group format\, providing an opportunity for attendees to share their insights and ask questions. Participants are welcome to pass if they prefer to listen. \nMeeting Schedule: \n\n6:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Arrive / Informal Networking\n6:30 PM – 6:35 PM: Introductions\n6:35 PM – 7:25 PM: Discussion\n\n7:25 PM – 7:30 PM: Nominate and vote for the next meeting’s topic\n7:30 PM: Meeting Concludes\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:Save the date! GovHack 2025 is happening 29–31 August!
DESCRIPTION:GovHack 2025 will take place from 29 to 31 August\nGovHack is an annual open government data competition held all over Australia and New Zealand. Teams are eligible for some great prizes\, in addition to honour and fame at our Red Carpet Awards. \nGovHack is about getting our best and brightest\, working with government data to innovate and create. It is about encouraging and celebrating our technical and creative capacity\, connecting citizens with government for great outcomes\, and building upon the social and economic value of open data published by government. \nIn 46 hours teams create a proof of concept and a video that tells the story of how the data can be reused. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n+−\n\n\n\n\nLeaflet\, © OpenStreetMap contributors\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWhat is GovHack?\nWho should come along?\nWhat’s in it for me?\n\n\n\nGovHack is an event that draws people together to innovate with Open Government Data. The best teams have a mix of skill so we encourage every one to come along including entrepreneurs\, developers\, designers\, digital media creators\, artists\, story tellers\, researchers and open data enthusiasts. \nA “hack” is when you take something and make it better.  So for this competition you need to take open government data and make it more useful or engaging! \nGovHack runs over 46 hours starting with the competition categories announced on the Friday night of the launch. Teams then trove through the official data sets  to find new ideas or ways to reuse the data to win prizes in International\, National and Local prize categories. \nIn 46 hours teams create a proof of concept and a video that tells the story of how the data can be reused. Many of the concepts are innovative community apps.  There are also a heap of entries that mash up data and display it in an informative visualisation or a creative artistic display. Teams work through the weekend and by Sunday 5pm you have to have submitted your team page\, 3 minute video of your concept and any code/source materials.

SUMMARY:Vibe Coding: Are Product Managers actually Context Engineers?
DESCRIPTION:Details\n\n\nVibe coding has emerged as the breakout AI use case of 2025\, with several vibe coding tools now ranking among the fastest-growing SaaS companies globally. But what exactly is vibe coding\, and how can you leverage it effectively? \nAt its core\, vibe coding democratises software development by enabling you to build software using natural language rather than traditional programming languages. While the medium has changed\, core software development principles still apply—you’re solving problems systematically\, just using English instead of code. \nThis creates incredible opportunities and new challenges. Product managers are uniquely positioned to thrive in this new world because of their inherent skills: providing clear business context\, deeply understanding customer problems\, and bridging communication between technical and business teams. These capabilities form the foundation of context engineering\, the skill at the heart of successful vibe coding. \nJoin Claire Byrne and David Malpas for a practical session showcasing vibe coding and context engineering through real-world demonstrations. You’ll learn how to leverage your existing PM strengths—breaking down complex problems\, crafting clear requirements\, and communicating customer needs—to excel in this new AI-driven approach. \n\nWhether you’re experimenting with AI tools or just getting started\, this session will empower you to apply your product instincts\, build innovative solutions\, and lead confidently in the age of AI-powered product development. \nAbout our speakers:\nClaire Byrne has spent the last decade proving you can build groundbreaking tech on shoestring budgets – and have fun doing it. This serial founder and AI Product Champion has led teams from napkin sketch to product-market-fit more times than she can count. Her current passion? Context engineering (vibe coding is so last week) ideas to reality by night and operationalising AI by day. Come ready for honest takes on what she’s found works\, what doesn’t\, and why everyone should be experimenting with this new technology today. \nDavid Malpas is a product leader who’s spent his career figuring out how to make great software at companies like Xero\, Plexure\, TVNZ\, Sky\, and Disney. He’s obsessed with finding ways for technology to make product teams work better and faster. At Xero\, he was Head of Product Practice\, where he built frameworks that helped thousands of people build products more effectively. Now he runs Tiny Machines\, a consultancy that helps software companies use AI to build better products. David loves combining tried-and-tested product thinking with the latest AI tools to help teams build products that make their customers’ lives better and their companies win. \nBig thanks to DevRev for sponsoring this event and GridAKL for hosting us! \nWe will confirm the URL for the livestream closer to the event date. Note that the livestream will start from just before 6pm.
